Breaking News: Obama Admin. Bans Ammunition Imports

With a few strokes of the pen, Barack Obama has just cut off ammunition for literally millions of Americans. The ATF has just banned the importation of one specific caliber of Russian surplus ammunition: 5.45x39. This is the ammunition used in the increasingly popular AK-74 rifles. Well, since the ammunition is steel-core and some manufacturer decided to design a pistol chambered in this caliber, the ATF has banned all imports effective immediately.

If you want commercial ammunition, good luck. It was hard to come by to begin with, but now that Barack Obama has signed Executive Order 13661 banning all trade with companies connected to the Russian arms and ammunition industry, it will now be impossible to find this ammunition.

There are currently no domestic companies that are manufacturing this caliber. With just two executive and bureaucratic actions, the Obama administration has cut off almost all access to this ammunition. This is how President Obama has decided to go after YOUR gun rights! He knows that he cannot defeat us up front. So, he has decided to fight you in the shadows, using his executive orders and Federal bureaucracies to disarm you however possible!

In case you might have forgotten, the Second Amendment reads that the "right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

Now I know that this line specifically only mentions "arms," but that doesn't mean that the Obama administration can just use a bureaucratic technicality to ban a whole caliber of ammunition!

The ATF has just banned the import of Russian surplus 5.45x39 ammunition. The fact is that for many Americans, this was the only way to affordably buy ammunition. However, since the ammunition has a steel-core, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives has decided to arbitrarily ban it.

This ammunition has been available on the market for years for law-abiding gun owners to use. However, thanks to a poorly worded law passed by your predecessors, the ATF can ban this ammo because someone decided to make a pistol in that caliber.

When your predecessors wrote [ http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/921 ]18 USC sec. 921(a)(17), the goal was to stop criminals from getting armor piercing handgun ammunition. The law deliberately left out rifle ammunition because any big-game hunting rifle can easily penetrate body armor. Rather than follow the law, however, the ATF has made it a practice to ban ammunition imports whenever a pistol is designed to shoot a rifle caliber.

So as of today, millions of Americans cannot buy legally buy this ammunition for their legal firearms. Now, I know what you're saying… "Why not just buy commercial ammunition?"

Well, that's a great idea, except Barack Obama extended Executive Order 13661 to prohibit the importation of any product from a corporation connected to the Russian arms industry. The ATF banned the majority of ammunition imports and Barack Obama just nearly finished the job with the commercial alternatives!

There are currently NO domestic manufacturers who are making this ammunition, so with a couple strokes of the pen, the Obama administration just cut off ammunition to millions of Americans.

This is blatantly unconstitutional and it must be stopped. The Obama administration is using loopholes and technicalities within the law to restrict civilian access to ammunition, in clear violation of the Second Amendment. This unlawful activity must be stopped NOW! I shouldn't have to remind you what happened the last time a power-hungry dictator tried to prohibit civilian ownership of ammunition…
