House GOP Moves to Stop Obama’s Ammo Ban!

This is NOT a drill! Barack Obama's ATF just announced that it plans to ban an entire subset of AR-15 ammunition (M855). This is the same type of ammunition used by our military and is responsible for a large percentage of the ammunition available to civilians.

The ATF is literally rewriting the law to make sure that you and I can't own this type of ammunition. If this new regulation is allowed to go through, then the effects will be devastating.

No government agency should be allowed to rewrite the law, especially not to disarm the American people! They failed at banning the AR-15, now they want to starve you of the bullets!

Here's the good news: The Republicans in Congress are going to take a stand! But we need your help! We need to blast every single Congressman and Senator DEMANDING that they sign on to this measure to put a stop to Obama's ammo ban!

A little more than a week ago, the ATF announced that it plans to outlaw an entire subset of AR-15 ammunition. It is classified as M855 and is the same type of ammunition used by our military.

As a result, it has become a favorite of target shooters, survivalists, and those interested in home defense. But the bullet contains some steel in it, so the ATF wants to rewrite the law to reclassify it as armor piercing so they can outlaw it. Here's a civics lesson: the Executive Branch does not have the Constitutional authority to rewrite law on its own.

In order for a bullet to be legally classified as armor piercing, it must meet one of the two criteria: It must have...

1)   a projectile or projectile core which may be used in a handgun and which is constructed entirely (excluding the presence of traces of other substances) from one or a combination of tungsten alloys, steel, iron, brass, bronze, beryllium copper, or depleted uranium; or

2)   a full jacketed projectile larger than .22 caliber designed and intended for use in a handgun and whose jacket has a weight of more than 25% of the total weight of the projectile.

I don't want to bore you with the specifics, but M855 does not have a steel core. It has a lead core with a steel tip. Additionally, the ammunition was designed and intended for use in a RIFLE (not a pistol).

As the law is written, this ammunition does not qualify as armor piercing. However, when has the written law ever stopped the Obama administration? If this change is made official in a few days, it will give the ATF authority to ban pretty much any hunting ammunition because they carry enough force to pierce a bullet proof vest.

This is an incredibly dangerous precedent. The ATF is attempting to ban an entire class of ammunition by illegally changing the law. The EPA is actively trying to ban lead ammunition and the ATF is trying to bann ammunition with pretty much any other metal in it. If they succeed, it would be catastrophic!

As a member of the legislative branch, you have a Constitutional OBLIGATION to stop this executive agency from changing the law as written. Rep. Bob Goodlatte is collecting signatures to take a stand against this executive overreach. I implore you to sign it.

The Obama administration failed at banning the AR-15. Now they are trying to starve the American people of ammunition.
