Together, we have sent tens of thousands of faxes to Congress DEMANDING that they stop the Obama administration's backdoor attempts to ban popular AR-15 ammunition.

We got their attention. Two-hundred and thirty eight Congressmen have signed a letter requesting that the ATF abandon its plans. Really? A sternly worded letter?

That's not good enough. Rep. Tom Rooney (R-FL) has introduced the Protecting Second Amendment Rights Act, a bill that would stop the ATF from banning any type of ammo.

The ATF's ban goes into effect in less than two weeks. We are running out of time.

Barack Obama's ATF is trying to rewrite the Law Enforcement Officers Protection Act of 1986 to redefine "armor piercing" to allow the agency to ban common AR-15 ammunition: M855 ball. This is the same type of ammunition that our military uses and as a result, it has become a popular target shooting round in the civilian market.

This ammunition was designed to be shot out of a rifle and to be able to pierce a russian soldier's pot-metal helmet at 600 yards. Anti-gun bureaucrats believe that is enough to reclassify the ammunition as armor-piercing. Here's the problem. This ammunition was neither designed to be used in a handgun nor does it have a completely steel core. As a result, the law simply doesn't apply to this type of ammunition. But Obama's ATF doesn't care. They are trying to illegally rewrite the achieve the President's gun control agenda.

The ATF doesn't have the constitutional or legal right to do this. But if they succeed in rewriting this law, it would give the administration unprecedented power to ban any type of rifle ammunition, simply because they have enough power to pierce a soft bulletproof vest.

The law was designed to protect officers against handgun ammunition designed to pierce bulletproof vests. The Obama administration is bastardizing the law to try ot ban rifle ammunition that just happens to have the ability to pierce a vest. There's a difference.

Right now, a bipartisan majority of 238 Congressmen have signed a letter telling the ATF to abandon it's plan to ban M855 ball ammunition. Really? A sternly worded letter?

That's not good enough.

The ATF executed a similar ban last year to cut off imported russian surplus ammunition and now the agency is trying to institute a new ban to shut-down a large percentage of domestic ammunition manufacturing.

I strongly urge you to support Rep. Tom Rooney's (R-FL) Protecting Second Amendment Rights Act, a bill that would stop the ATF from banning any type of ammo. If Obama's ATF succeeds in rewriting this law, it would give them unprecedented authority to ban any type of rifle ammunition.
