VA Hospital Let Troubled Veteran Freeze to Death

The VA just turned a veteran away who was asking for help. He was diagnosed with severe PTSD and literally begged the hospital to be admitted.

Instead, they gave him a bottle of sleeping pills and turned him away. His body was discovered 5 days later. He had overdosed on the pills and wandered out into the forest where he passed away from exposure to the elements.

The truth is the VA killed him, just like the VA has killed countless veterans before him.

The real question is how many more of our heroes have to die before we raise hell and demand better? The best military in the world deserves the best medical care in the world. They answered the call to defend us, it is time for us to answer the call to defend them.

We have the best military in the world. You would expect that the best military would receive the best medical care. That simply isn't the case.

On February 15, Richard Miles entered a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, and told the staff he desperately needed help. He had previously been diagnosed with PTSD and begged the hospital staff to be admitted.

Instead, they gave him a bottle of sleeping pills and sent him on his way. Five days later, his body was discovered in the woods. He had overdosed on the sleeping pills and wandered out into the forest where he died from exposure.

This man literally begged to be admitted and the VA just gave him a bottle of pills and sent him on his way. The coroner says that Richard Miles died from exposure, but that's not true. The VA killed this man just as the VA has killed countless veterans before him.

The question is are you going to allow this to continue? How many more veterans have to die before you and your colleagues give them a medical system they deserve?
I applaud you and your colleagues for trying to reform the VA, but it isn't working. Courts are forcing the VA to restore corrupt bureaucrats' bonuses and veterans continue dying from neglect and negligence.

The Des Moines VA Hospital has a sign out front that reads, "the price of freedom is honored here." That's a lie. Richard Miles came there begging for help and the VA sent him away to die.

I am tired of having to write these letters. I am tired of turning on the news and hearing that another veteran lost his or her life because of this failed system.

I am appalled and you should be too. If you won't reform the VA into a system worthy of our veterans, then We the People will have no choice but to replace you.
