The President has a lot of power but when it comes to treaties, the Founders were clear: 2/3 of the Senate has to agree.

This past week, Congress announced it would cede this authority not once, but TWICE, on both Iran and the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

It's time for a history lesson. The Founding Fathers gave Congress the power to ratify treaties for a reason. The fate of the country is too important to allow one man to commit us to foreign agreements.

While the President has a lot of power but when it comes to treaties, the Founders were clear: 2/3 of the Senate has to agree.

This past week, some of your colleagues announced compromises that would cede this authority not once, but TWICE, on both Iran nuclear deal and the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

What are you so afraid of? You would have to be truly afraid to cede this authority to the White House.

Instead of forcing a vote to go through the Senate for ratification on the Iran treaty, the "compromise" will allow the Senate to hold a vote of disapproval, which the President can easily veto. This completely changes the dynamic. Instead of a majority of the Senate having the power to block a treaty, the power shifts to the minority by giving them the ability to block a veto-override.

On the other issue -- the Trans-Pacific Partnership -- again I ask, what are you so afraid of? Why would you even contemplate giving the Obama administration the power to "fast-track" a treaty without ever presenting the final draft to the public?

That is what your colleagues are asking you to support. The complete cessation of Congress' ratification powers.

You work for us, We the People. You're job is to make sure that these treaties are right for the country. The Founders gave you treaty powers for a reason. One man should never have the authority to enter an entire nation into a foreign agreement.

Yet instead of standing up to this Imperial President, you are giving him more power.

This is UNACCEPTABLE! You MUST vote against these compromises and protect Congress' treaty powers, not give them away to the White House!
