Right now, the Supreme Court is deciding whether to hear Friedman v. City of Highland Park, a case that centers around whether municipalities, or any governmental body for that matter, have the power to ban commonly-owned weapons.

At issue is the city's ban on semi-automatic rifles and standard capacity magazines.

In upholding the ban, the Appellate Court made a number of fallacies.

Once the judges were forced to admit the ban would have no affect on crime, they upheld the ban because it still made people feel safer.

"If it has no other effect, Highland Park's ordinance may increase the public's sense of safety."

Then, the court wrote that the 2nd Amendment doesn't apply to semi-automatic rifles because they didn't exist when the 2nd Amendment was written.

"The features prohibited by Highland Park's ordinance were not common in 1791. Most guns available then could not fire more than one shot without being reloaded."

Just because the internet didn't exist in 1791, doesn't mean that the 1st Amendment shouldn't apply to digital speech. Likewise, when the 4th Amendment says that Americans are secure in their papers, that applies to far more than handwritten notes.

There isn't a single other Constitutional right that has an 18th Century technology test attached to it.

Three times the Supreme Court has debated bringing up this case and three times, they failed to make a decision.

If they let such a flawed ruling stand, there is no telling what would follow. That could very well lead to civil war.

The truth of the matter is that when James Madison wrote "shall not be infringed," he was talking about all three branches of government. You have just as much of an obligation to overturn these unconstitutional gun bans as the Judiciary does!
