Federal District Judge Richard J Leno just issued a MASSIVE 2nd Amendment decision. He has declared that Washington DC's concealed carry permit scheme is unconstitutional. Citizens need not prove a "good reason" to be allowed to carry a firearm.

Here's the problem. The votes aren't there in the DC Circuit Court. The votes also aren't there in the Supreme Court to take this ruling nationwide, either.

The only way to take this ruling nationwide is through Congressional action.

There are at least 12 Democrat Senators who support concealed carry reciprocity. The votes are there, we just need to force a vote!

It is time to make concealed carry reciprocity the law of the land. I am writing you to ask that you please support S.498 and H.R.923, the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act.

Ten years ago, Congress passed a reciprocity bill allowing retired police officers to carry their weapons nationwide. There is absolutely no doubt that this has had a positive impact.

It is time to do the same for other law-abiding citizens.

No one is suggesting that we go back to the Wild West. All that we ask is that you and your colleagues pass a law that allows LICENSED and TRAINED concealed weapon permit holders to carry their weapons outside their home states.

If someone is allowed to carry a concealed weapon in their home state, then they should be allowed to do the same nationwide. After this bill becomes law, it will compel states to give permits to their own citizens as well. It would be hard for a state like New York to allow Texans to carry in the state but deny that right to New Yorkers.

The data shows that as concealed weapons permit numbers increase, violent crime decreases. Criminals don't ask for permission to carry guns. The only thing that our country's patchwork system of gun laws accomplishes is disarming law-abiding gun owners when they are traveling.

The Second Amendment reads that the "right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." The Supreme Court ruled in Heller v. D.C. that the Second Amendment provides an individual right and then the Court ruled a year later in McDonald v. Chicago that the Second Amendment must be respected by states and municipalities.

So why are you and your colleagues allowing states to disarm out-of-state travelers and arrest those who mistakenly carry their firearms while traveling through?

Better yet: why are you and your colleagues allowing Congressional leaders to mothball this legislation?

Yesterday, a Federal Judge ruled for the 2nd time that Washington DC's concealed carry permitting scheme was "likely unconstitutional." This is our opening!

A right delayed is a right denied. You have the power to fix this country's patchwork system of gun laws right now. But you choose not to. That has to end!

The Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act is a common sense piece of legislation that will allow trained and licensed concealed carriers to protect themselves and their families while traveling. I urge you to vote in favor of this bill and make sure that the Second Amendment is respected by all states.
