Barack Obama's ATF just implemented a new regulation that could completely destroy the United States' domestic ammunition manufacturing industry.

Under these new regulations just announced overnight, the ATF has reclassified nitrocellulose as a "high explosive."

This is a crucial ingredient in making gunpowder. For decades, ammunition manufacturers have been able to add water to nitrocellulose to decrease its volatility. This makes it completely safe to store and ship, allowing manufacturers to avoid having to comply with the regulations surrounding high explosives.

Well, the ATF just announced, without any warning, that it was reclassifying wetted nitrocellulose as a high explosive. They are doing this in spite of the fact that it is not a volatile compound.

The immediate effect? There isn't an gunpowder manufacturer in the country that is prepared to comply with these regulations. They had no warning and there is no grace period. The manufacturing of gunpowder has ground to a halt. No gunpowder, no ammunition.

Shelves will go bare in gun shops. Many manufacturers will go out of business because they are unable to eat the new regulatory costs. Those that survive will have to jack up their prices to pay for compliance.

This is an assault on the 2nd Amendment, plain and simple. There is absolutely no reason for this regulatory change. The only purpose is to put ammunition and gunpowder manufacturers out of business and make ammo prohibitively expensive for Americans.
