We are out of time. In less than 48 hours, Barack Obama will surrender control of the internet to the United Nations.

Since the internet was created, it has been a bastion of free speech. That will end on Saturday morning when Obama formally relinquishes the United States' internet oversight authority. The internet will no longer be bound by the 1st Amendment's free speech protections.

This surrender will happen the minute the clock strikes midnight tomorrow night. The only thing that can stop Obama is an Act of Congress.

Since the advent of the internet, it has operated as a free speech entity. If someone wants to create a website, they are allowed to do so without risk of being censored.

This was made possible because of US government oversight control over the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers.

When someone wants to build a website, they first look to see if the web address is taken. If it is available, then they pay a small fee to ICANN to get the address registered in their name.

As long as the US government has oversight control over ICANN, then websites can be named literally anything.

This weekend, Barack Obama is scheduled to relinquish control of the internet and transfer oversight powers to the international community, most likely the United Nations.

The minute he does this, ICANN will no longer be bound by the 1st Amendment because it will have become a non-US government entity.

Ted Cruz is leading the fight to stop this from happening. He has introduced the Protecting Internet Freedom Act, which would block Obama from surrendering control of the Internet.

It is absolutely shameful that this issue was not addressed in the recently passed Continuing Resolution. You had the opportunity to stop this using a must-pass spending bill and for some reason, leadership would not allow it.

The result is that we are now out of time. This is happening in less than 48 hours and the only way to stop it is an Act of Congress.

I am writing you to demand that you stop Obama's withdrawal from ICANN. This isn't a request. As a constituent, this is a demand.
