This is the most aggressive gun control policy to come out of the Obama administration so-far. The President has ordered the Social Security Administration to hand over its list of disabled beneficiaries to the FBI so the law enforcement agency can begin a disarmament program. The citation for this new anti-gun regulation is 81 FR 27059.

There are essentially 7 ways within the law that someone can have their 2nd Amendment rights revoked.

There are only two health reasons, however, that the government can use to justify disarmament. An individual must be adjudicated to be mentally defective or they must have been involuntarily admitted to a mental health facility.

Obama is expanding this to include all Social Security beneficiaries who need help managing their finances.

Last time I checked, there was no provision within the Gun Control Act of 1968 or the Brady Bill of 1993, or any of the subsequent amendments, that require someone to prove financial literacy in order to enjoy their 2nd Amendment rights.

Additionally, there is no provision within the Bill of Rights that disqualifies someone from gun ownership because they need help getting the bills paid on-time.

Having a designated or representative payee does not mean someone is unfit to own a firearm. Many elderly Americans are assigned a designated payee because they don't have a car, can't drive, or have physical disabilities that make it hard to go to the bank, for example, or go to the pharmacy to pick up their medications. A representative payee, usually a family member or close friend, is assigned to help make life easier for these aging Americans.

Instead of making it so only the beneficiary can cash the benefits check, this program allows for an additional family member to deposit and withdraw funds on the beneficiary's behalf.

Others choose to assign a designated payee because they are just horrible at making sure the bills get paid on time.

Financial literacy has no bearing on Constitutional rights!

The Social Security Beneficiary 2nd Amendment Rights Protection Act now has 139 co-sponsors. There is a sister-bill in the Senate gaining steam as well. The bill has a simple premise: Being assigned a designated or representative payee is not grounds for labeling a beneficiary mentally defective and eliminating their Constitutional right to self defense.

The Obama administration has closed the comment period on this regulatory change. That means it could be enacted any day now. If you don't act, tens of thousands of law-abiding Americans will be forcibly disarmed for no reason other than needing help with their finances.
