Idaho Senator Mike Crapo has formally re-introduced the Social Security Beneficiary Second Amendment Rights Protection Act. This bill is two pages long and would prohibit the Social Security Administration or ATF from implementing the ban.

A year ago, Barack Obama unveiled a number of gun control executive orders. Most of them were harmless, but one had the potential of disarming hundreds of thousands of people.

Over the past year, the Social Security Administration has been finalizing this gun ban and just before Obama left office, they began the process of implementing it.

Under the order, the SSA would transfer its entire list of disabled Social Security beneficiaries into the FBI's background check system. Anyone who has been assigned a "representative payee" would immediately be prohibited from owning or buying firearms.

A representative payee is assigned when a beneficiary needs help managing their finances.

There are plenty of legitimate reasons to want a representative payee.

Often times, someone has reached the age when they are no longer comfortable driving and need a family member or friend to deposit their benefits checks or pick up their prescriptions from the pharmacy.

Others simply are horrible at making sure bills get paid on time and want a family member to help them meet all their deadlines.

None of this has anything to do with owning firearms. Nowhere in the 2nd Amendment did the founders mention that the right to keep and bear arms applies only to the financially literate.

If left unchecked, this executive order will disarm hundreds of thousands of people. Elderly Americans with hunting permits, gun permits, or carry licenses would be the first to be disarmed. Anyone on the list who tries to purchase a gun would immediately be committing a felony.

You MUST undo this. The Social Security Beneficiary Second Amendment Rights Protection Act would roll this entire program back. It is just two pages and would prohibit the SSA from using a beneficiary's representative payee as an excuse for disarmament.
