The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act just picked up three more co-sponsors in the House. That brings the total number of sponsors and co-sponsors to 197.

That is 77 more co-sponsors than H.J. Res. 40 had, which dismantled Barack Obama's Social Security gun ban and was signed into law earlier this year. If the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act comes up for a vote, then the votes will be there.

Here is how the legislation would work. If someone is licensed to carry a firearm in one state, then he or she would be allowed to carry a firearm in every state. The Second Amendment's right to carry does not end at the state line. That right applies nationwide.

This legislation would force states to treat carry permits the same way they treat driver's licenses. Out-of-state visitors would still be expected to follow state and local laws, but they would not be forced to apply for another permit in order to exercise their Constitutional right.

Right now, a minority of states openly block carry permits from being approved. The list of states is short (New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Maryland, California, Hawaii, Washington DC, and Rhode Island) but a quarter of all Americans live in these states.

The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act would accomplish two things: (1) it would allow out-of-state visitors to exercise their constitutional right to self-defense nationwide and (2) it would give Americans living in states like California the right to seek a carry permit from another state in order to carry at home.

When similar legislation was introduced in 2009, there were 68 Democrats that signed on as co-sponsors. This isn't a partisan issue. There is nothing partisan about the Bill of Rights.

With 197 co-sponsors in the House and 38 co-sponsors in the Senate, concealed carry reciprocity's time has come.

I am writing to urge you to back this common-sense measure and convince your colleagues on both sides of the aisle to do the same. Restore the Second Amendment to ALL Americans living in ALL 50 states!
