[Sen./Rep.] [FIRST NAME] [LAST NAME]
Washington, DC
Dear [Sen./Rep.] [LAST NAME]:
Right now, there is a piece of legislation floating around that purports to ban "bump stocks." In the Senate, it is sponsored by Dianne Feinstein. In the House, Republican Congressman Carlos Curbelo has introduced it.
Yet, this isn't just a ban on bump stocks. This is a ban on a whole swath of firearm accessories that gun control advocates have tried to ban for years.
Here is the actual text so you can see what I mean:
"It shall be unlawful for any person to import, sell, manufacture, transfer, or possess, in or affecting interstate or foreign commerce, a trigger crank, a bump-fire device, or any part, combination of parts, component, device, attachment, or accessory that is designed or functions to accellerate the rate of fire of a semi-automatic rifle but not convert the semi-automatic rifle into a machine gun." (emphasis added)
This is nothing but a new assault weapon ban. For years, gun control proponents have called for a ban on pistol grips, adjustable stocks, detachable magazines, and even handguards. They argued that each of them existed to help someone fire a rifle faster.
That assault weapon ban failed miserably in 2013. Now, they have resurrected it once again after Las Vegas, except instead of openly going after the weapons and accessories by name, this new bill would create a blanket ban on any accessory that ATF believes helps someone fire a gun faster.
And what is even worse is the fact that they have so far convinced dozens of your colleagues to support this.
You need to understand that this Feinstein-Curbelo bill is nothing but an assault weapon ban hidden behind bump stocks, an accessory you hadn't even heard of two weeks ago.
I am writing to make sure you understand that We the People see this bill for what it really is.
If you support it -- if you vote for it or help it pass in any way -- your actions will be treated as a vote against the 2nd Amendment, as a vote for a gun ban, and as the first nail in the coffin of your political career.
If you vote for this gun ban and go after the 2nd Amendment, you will have lost my support.
Kill this bill right now!
Sincerely,
[SIGNATURE]
