Last week, there was a concerted push to add more gun control to the Stop School Violence Act. The plan was to add the Fix NICS bill to the package as an amendment. That plan was scuttled, however, after Americans from all walks of life demanded that you and your colleagues stand down.

You see, the Fix NICS bill already passed the House as an amendment to the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act. If you want to expand the background check system, then you need to also expand the right to carry.

Some in the GOP wanted to split these two bills up and condemn the CCRA to die. The people rose up and stopped that treachery from moving forward.

Now, however, there is a new plan. Some of your colleagues are scheming to add the Fix NICS bill as a standalone amendment to the Omnibus bill.

The GOP establishment sees this as a win-win. They can pass gun control, with the help of the Democrats, without actually bringing the bill itself up for a vote. It also allows conservative Members of Congress to vote against the bill to save their own political futures. This is a trick that John Boehner used many times, which is exactly what the Hastert Rule is supposed to prevent.

I am writing to you to make sure you understand that I am onto you. I know the game. If you allow this background check bill to be added to the omnibus as an amendment -- with the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act being left behind -- then you will face the consequences at the polls. I don't care if you vote against the bill on the final vote.

If you allow this amendment to be added to the omnibus, it will be no different from you voting for it.

The compromise has already passed the House with a bipartisan majority. Shore up the background check system and in return, allow Americans who have passed that background check system to defend themselves nationwide.

If you allow Fix NICS to be added to the omnibus alone, then you will have abandoned the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act. And I will vote accordingly...
