9th Circuit Judge Stephen Reinhardt unexpectedly passed away this week. His death now creates a third vacancy on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Why are there three vacancies? Because Mitch McConnell has clung to the Senate rules and allowed Democrats to keep the other two seats open.

The Democrats are grossly abusing the "blue slip" policy. Under the Senate rules, the Senators from a judge's state must sign off on the nomination before a full vote can be held. In order for Trump to fill a vacancy in the 9th Circuit, California's Senators must approve.

For the past year and a half, liberal Senators have been refusing to hand in their blue slips. Under the rules, that means that the confirmation process has to be stopped in its tracks.

It was Harry Reid who invoked the Nuclear Option to push through Obama's radical nominees. Now that the pendulum has swung and Republicans control Congress, Democrats have perverted the Senate rules to block almost all of Trump's judicial nominees.

This has to stop.

For far too long, the GOP leadership has prioritized the rules over taking this country back. Chuck Grassley bypassed the blue slip rule earlier this year to confirm a judicial nominee, but the 9th Circuit is apparently different. Almost 20% of all Senate Democrats represent states within the 9th Circuit. They are promising to slow down and block these confirmations as much as possible. They hope that by running out the clock, they can gain more Senate seats in November and permanently block Trump's nominations. They've already blocked two vacancies from being filled for almost a year and a half. In their minds, they just need to hold out a few more months...

The time to act is now.
