After a 17-year-old committed a school shooting yesterday with his father's stolen shotgun and revolver, Republicans are now saying enough is enough. They have decided to "compromise" with the Left and sign onto the Democrats' new federal gun confiscation bill.

Instead of limiting when the Federal government can disarm Americans, this bill would authorize Federal disarmament based upon nothing but hearsay.

The Democrats have already got GOP Congressman Fred Upton to sign on as a lead co-sponsor. Other RINOs have been signing on as well. They are gathering the support to force this bill through.

After the Parkland shooting, many of your colleagues rallied around the call to "do something" about guns. Now, after a 17-year-old walked into a school in Texas with a shotgun and revolver he stole from his father, many of your colleagues are again demanding some sort of action.

It didn't take long to see that the call to "do something" actually meant attacking American gun owners. Members of both parties began signing onto proposals to enact gun bans and gun registries. But another piece of "compromise" legislation is moving forward that is even worse.

Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI) just introduced a Federal gun confiscation bill. She was joined by Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI) and other "moderate" Republicans.

Make no mistake: This legislation is a clear danger to both our Republic and to our Constitutional rights.

There is a reason that it is hard to disarm American gun owners. Americans can only lose their 2nd Amendment rights if they are dishonorably discharged from the military, convicted of a crime, a fugitive from justice, involuntarily admitted to a mental facility, or adjudicated mentally defective.

This new bill would allow for Federal confiscation orders based on nothing but hearsay. Family members, neighbors, community members, and perfect strangers would be able to petition the Federal government to confiscate an American's firearms.

Prosecutors would not even need to charge the gun owner with a crime to get a confiscation order.

This proposal is not only illegal, but it is also unconstitutional. The bar for Federal disarmament is deliberately set high because the 2nd Amendment is not a 2nd Class right.

And yet, Congress is currently rallying behind this Dingell-Upton confiscation plan.

I want to be completely clear: if you go down this path, you will seriously regret it. You need to be defending the right keep and bear arms, not looking for ways to weaken it.

You need to put a stop to this gun confiscation plan. You CANNOT allow the Federal government's disarmament powers to be broadened.

When the founders ratified the phrase "shall not be infringed," they literally meant that the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

I understand that many of your colleagues have decided to turn their backs on the 2nd Amendment. They think that will win them re-election. They are wrong.

If you won't stand up for my Constitutional rights, then I am sorry, but I have no choice but to replace you with someone who will.
