The 2nd Amendment protects an individual right to keep and bear arms. The Supreme Court has ruled that this includes a right to self-defense, from criminals and even from tyrannical governments.

For that reason, it is deliberately difficult for the government to disarm gun owners.

In order for someone to be disarmed, they need to be (1) charged or convicted with a felony or misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, (2) labeled a fugitive from justice, (3) adjudicated mentally defective, (4) involuntarily admitted to a mental institution, (5) or dishonorably discharged from the military.

Now, however, your colleagues are working on a "compromise" bill, known as a Red Flag bill, to allow gun confiscations based on nothing but hearsay. Family members, neighbors, community members, and even perfect strangers would be able to petition the Federal government to confiscate an American's firearms. The gun owner would not even need to be charged or convicted of a crime and there would be no adjudication of their mental faculties.

No one wants criminals or the mentally ill to have guns. But the solution is to go after the criminals and the mentally ill, not to open the flood gates for innocent and law-abiding gun owners to get disarmed.

This proposal is not only illegal, but it is also unconstitutional. The bar for Federal disarmament is deliberately set high because the 2nd Amendment is not a 2nd Class right. And yet, many of your colleagues are rallying behind this Dingell-Upton bill. Now, we've learned that Marco Rubio and Lindsey Graham are working with Dianne Feinstein on a Senate version of this confiscation plan.

You need to put a stop to this. You cannot allow the Federal government's disarmament powers to be broadened.

When the founders ratified the phrase "shall not be infringed," they meant shall not be infringed.

Many of your colleagues are running away from the 2nd Amendment as the midterms come closer. Others are openly campaigning on eliminating the right to keep and bear arms.

I want to make something absolutely clear to you: If you won't stand up for my Constitutional rights, I will replace you with someone who will.

If you allow these gun confiscation bills to move forward, you will be removed.
