The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act is the biggest civil rights bill to come along in a generation. It would restore the 2nd Amendment's right to bear arms by requiring that states honor out-of-state carry permits. But it would also open the door for tens of millions of Americans living in anti-gun states to finally be able to exercise their God-given rights.

Right now, 26% of Americans live in states that believe the right to bear arms is actually a "privilege." They believe they can deny concealed carry permit applications for any reason, and they do. It is next to impossible for an average American in states like California, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Hawaii, or Maryland to be approved for a carry permit.

These states (and a few others) also refuse to honor any out-of-state carry permits, leaving Americans defenseless while traveling across the country.

The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act would fix all of that. Not only would states be forced to honor other states' carry permits, but it would also allow residents living in these anti-gun states to use non-resident permits from Utah, Florida, or New Hampshire to bypass their states' restrictive unconstitutional laws.

Last year, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act passed the House with a bipartisan majority. At the last minute, the leadership attached the Fix NICS bill as an amendment. The thought was that in order to get gun control passed, there would need to be a compromise. That compromise was allowing law abiding Americans to exercise their right to carry nationwide.

But the leadership betrayed gun owners. The Fix NICS Act was pushed as a standalone bill and attached to the omnibus. But the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act was left on the cutting room floor.

This is unacceptable.
Gun reform must be a compromise. If we are going to reform the background check system to make sure that criminals and the mentally ill don't fall through the cracks, then it makes sense to protect the rights of people who pass those background checks.

If no one is going to fall through the cracks anymore, then there is no legitimate reason to block licensed gun owners from carrying their firearms across state lines.

The Fix NICS bill became law with the omnibus bill. Now it is time to finish the compromise and pass the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act. The votes are there in the House. There are also ten vulnerable Democrats up for re-election in states that Trump won. If they won't support the 2nd Amendment, then they will be replaced by someone who will.

This is the compromise. And yet, it is nowhere to be found. Your colleagues seem only interested in passing more gun control.

You need to do everything in your power to put the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act onto Trump's desk.

A right delayed is a right denied and if this legislation does not pass this year, we will have no choice but to clean house in Congress.
