Right now, there is a despicable amendment making its way through Congress. Democrats are negotiating with the GOP leadership to attach a major anti-gun amendment into the President's prison reform legislation.

Their plan would chip away at both the 1st and 2nd Amendments.

Under the plan introduced by Sens. Dick Durbin and Chuck Schumer, Americans would face 5 years in prison for teaching or learning how to build or repair a gun on the internet.

We all know that the Left's ultimate goal is universal disarmament. But that will never be possible if Americans are allowed to build their own firearms. Democrats are now proposing making it a felony to even learn how to build a gun.

Their proposal would amend the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and clarify that sharing any firearm designs or schematics on the internet is against the law. Their proposal would treat sharing this gunsmith knowledge the same as shipping a rocket launcher overseas to a terrorist organization. It's absolute madness.

Obama tried something similar just weeks before he left office. He tried to unilaterally reclassify gunsmiths as arms manufacturers. If you and your colleagues hadn't stopped him, most of America's gunsmiths would have gone out of business.

Now, the Democrats are back. Instead of going after gunsmiths, they are targeting the information needed to build or repair a gun.

Benjamin Franklin famously wrote that "those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." He was absolutely correct.

Our rights are enshrined in the Constitution for a reason. The Founders knew that the government would eventually try to go after American patriots. That is why they ratified the bill of rights: to protect us from tyrannical government.

Durbin and Schumer are demanding that the GOP add their anti-gun amendment to Pres. Trump's prison reform package. Otherwise, they are threatening to filibuster the whole thing.

I want to be absolutely clear. Under no circumstance can you allow this unconstitutional amendment to reach President Trump's desk. Our freedoms and liberties are not up for debate.

American gun owners are not criminals. Learning how to build or repair a firearm is not a crime.
