Washington, DC
Dear [Sen./Rep.] [LAST NAME]:
Tragedy struck yesterday in Maryland. Anne Arundel County Police showed up to 60-year-old Gary Willis' home at 5 am. Hearing the pounding at the door, Mr. Willis answered with a gun in his hand.
Police informed him that they were there to confiscate his firearms. He wasn't being charged with a crime or even institutionalized. One of his angry extended family members decided to turn him into police. They were there to confiscate his guns based on nothing but hearsay, and weren't even willing to hear him out.
Willis refused to comply with the order. Since he was holding a gun, police barged in and a fight ensued. When the dust settled, Gary Willis was shot dead, on the floor of his own house.
This would become reality nationwide if you and your colleagues pass the red flag bill that is being pushed by both the GOP and Democrats.
Our justice system is built on a principle of "innocent until proven guilty." Except as Gary Willis' case tragically shows, red flag bills declare gun owners are guilty until proven innocent. This man wasn't a criminal. He wasn't a terrorist. And yet, police were there to confiscate his firearms based on nothing but hearsay. They were there to seize his guns and give Willis a court date where he could plead with a judge to give them back. His only crime was assuming that the words "shall not be infringed" actually meant something... and now he's dead.
That's not justice. And yet, many of your colleagues want to make these confiscations a nationwide norm.
There are half a dozen different red flag bills floating around Congress. You need to kill each and every one of them.
You swore an oath to defend the Constitution -- including the 2nd Amendment's promise of a right to keep and bear arms -- against all enemies foreign and domestic. That includes your colleagues in Congress.
If you will not stand for my rights, I will have no choice but to stand against you!
Stop these red flag bills in their tracks RIGHT NOW or else you will be removed from office!
Sincerely,
[SIGNATURE]
