Dear [Sen./Rep.] [LAST NAME]:
The Founders designed our government to include three co-equal branches of government. Law enforcement investigations are housed in the Executive Branch and fall under the direction of both the President and the Attorney General. That includes hiring and firing decisions.
So, you can imagine my surprise to see that many of your colleagues want to create a fourth unaccountable branch of government: Robert Mueller.
No one has ever voted for Robert Mueller. In the position he currently holds, he was not even confirmed by Congress. But the legislation being pushed by Jeff Flake and Chris Coons would make Mueller the most powerful person in government. No one in the Executive Branch, not even the President, would be allowed to fire him. Any questions over his termination would be decided by the Judiciary.
Mueller would have the power to continue his investigation without end.
After 18 months, the Special Counsel's Office has not produced any evidence of collusion. Despite the many process crimes and indictments, not a single court filing alleges that the Russians collaborated with anyone connected to Trump to sway the election. There is no evidence because it never happened.
But that hasn't stopped Mueller from trying to ruin as many people's lives as possible. The latest target is 72-year-old Jerome Corsi. Corsi didn't do anything illegal. His crime is forgetting about an email he forwarded back in 2016. He amended his testimony once he remembered the email chain, but Mueller is trying to charge him with a crime anyway. Leaks are starting to suggest that the Special Counsel's office is preparing to go after President Trump's own children.
The legislation before you would give Mueller near-unlimited powers. It would make Mueller more powerful than even the President of the United States.
I am demanding that you block this proposal, whether it is introduced as a stand-alone bill or an amendment to a spending package.
If you allow this unconstitutional proposal to reach the floor, you will be removed from office!
Sincerely,
[SIGNATURE]
