Last week was a stain on the history of the United States Congress.

44 Democrats voted to keep infanticide legal by filibustering the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.

This bill has nothing to do with abortion and nothing to do with "reproductive rights." The bill simply states that if a baby is born-alive and survives an abortion procedure, doctors and nurses must provide life-saving and resuscitative care.

How is that controversial? When a baby is born-alive, doctors and nurses should have to fight to keep the baby alive.

It is only controversial if you believe a mother should have the right to kill a living and breathing baby... That is what one political party voted for last week.

Mahatma Ghandi once said that the true measure of a society is how it treats its most vulnerable members. There is no class of Americans more vulnerable than newborn abortion survivors. And the fact that Congress failed to pass legislation to protect them is absolutely shameful.

It is also shameful to watch Republicans brush this issue aside so they can move onto something else. Hundreds of born-alive babies are killed or left to die in the US every year.  You can't just move-on from that. You must protect them.

I am writing to tell you that I will hold each and every Congressman and Senator accountable for this. Anyone who votes against this common-sense bill or refuses to fight for it will be removed from office.

Out of all of your priorities in congress, protecting newborn babies from being killed in delivery rooms should be at the top of your to-do list. If it isn't, then I will replace you with someone who cares...

There is no excuse for voting against this bill and no excuse from throwing it on the back burner and refusing to fight for it.
