While the whole country is fixated on the news of the Mueller Report, some of your colleagues are trying to do something pretty despicable. They are holding a hearing on a gun control "compromise" known as Red Flag bills.

The legislation has been officially filed as Senate Bill 7, the Extreme Risk Protection Order and Violence Prevention Act.

Under this law, police and prosecutors would no longer bear the burden of proof in disarmament hearings. Mere hearsay would be enough to get a gun confiscation order. It would then be up to the disarmed gun owner to prove to a judge that he or she deserves their guns and rights back. If they aren't convincing, the judge would be able to extend the order out to a whole year.

The gun disarmament order would be decided in an ex parte hearing where the accused isn't even allowed to attend. Only after they are disarmed are gun owners allowed to fight against this tyrant.

This law, quite simply, declares that gun owners are guilty until proven innocent. This is not how our justice system is designed!

Every state that has passed similar statutes have seen their Red Flag laws abused. A Maryland man was killed in his doorway when he refused to surrender his guns during a 5 a.m. raid. He wasn't a criminal. He wasn't mentally ill. An angry family member turned him in to police out of spite after getting into an argument days prior...

You swore an oath to defend the Bill of Rights, not to chip away at it. But now, your colleagues are trying to sneak this confiscation bill through when they know the media won't cover it. And you're just letting them do it.

Shame on you.

This isn't a "compromise." Putting the 2nd Amendment on the chopping block is not a "compromise." Allowing the government to fast-track gun confiscations is not a "compromise." We have a right to keep and bear arms specifically to prevent legislators from "compromising" like this.
