Yesterday's shooting in a San Diego synagogue was tragic. An anti-semitic man walked into the house of worship and gunned down Jews on the final day of Passover. The shooter was armed with an AR-15, a rifle he was not legally allowed to own in California.

The massacre would have been much worse had an off-duty Border Patrol officer not fired back. This hero saved so many lives by forcing the shooter to end his killing spree and flee the synagogue.

You should be using this as a reason to pass common-sense concealed carry reciprocity legislation to empower Americans to defend their communities in all 50 states. Instead, your gun control colleagues want to invoke this tragedy to pass a new gun ban bill.

Lindsey Graham is currently working on a gun control package. He is adamant that the bill must be bipartisan and has agreed to negotiate and compromise with gun control Democrats over what's in the package. Dianne Feinstein is demanding a vote on her new version of the Assault Weapon Ban.

Feinstein's bill is the most radical gun ban legislation she has ever introduced. The bill would ban any semi-automatic rifle or shotgun that has any kind of grip. If you can hold it in your hand, it would be banned.

This is the gun control bill that your colleagues are demanding. You must do everything in your power to block it.

But that isn't the only gun control bill that is being negotiated over. Others in the Democrat caucus want the government to be given the power to monitor, approve, and keep records of all gun transfers in the country. A gun owner registry would be the precursor to future confiscation efforts.

Another proposal would allow the FBI to deny background checks, allowing them to block Americans from purchasing firearms for weeks on end. Instead of being forced to process background checks instantly, the FBI would gain the power to delay background check approvals without even needing to give a reason for it...

You must block these provisions from making it to the floor. There is no "compromise" on the 2nd Amendment. "Shall not be infringed" means the same now as it did when the phrase was put to paper back in 1789.

You should be protecting Americans gun rights, not looking for new ways to chip away at them.
