The shooting at the Chabad of Poway Synagogue was tragic. Had it not been for one brave worshipper who was armed that day, there is no telling how many lives could have been lost.

Congress should be using this case to empower citizens to defend themselves and their communities. Instead, many of your colleagues are marching forward with a radical gun control package that would punish American gun owners.

They are demanding an end to private gun sales and a move towards a universal gun owner registry. They want a nationwide ban on semi-automatic weapons. Dianne Feinstein is introducing a bill to increase the minimum age to purchase a firearm to 21, which would eliminate millions of Americans' God-given self-defense rights. There is a bill that would get rid of instant background checks and instead give the FBI weeks to decide whether Americans should be allowed to purchase guns. And worst of all, they are pushing a radical Red Flag bill that would authorize and support gun confiscations targeting innocent Americans.

And instead of fighting back against this horrible assault on Americans' liberties, many Republicans are promising to find "common ground" on these gun control bills.

This is despicable.

You swore an oath to defend the 2nd Amendment, not chip away at it piece by piece. The 2nd Amendment was written to ensure that legislators like you would never be allowed to "compromise" away Americans' gun rights.

If you want to take action after the Chabad of Poway Synagogue shooting, then pass concealed carry reciprocity. Give all law-abiding Americans the power to defend their communities. But don't you dare punish innocent Americans by chipping away at their 2nd Amendment rights.

If you try to go down this path anyway and target my gun rights, I swear that you will regret it. The American people will not stand for this.
