Republicans and Democrats have been negotiating for over a year on an Extreme Risk Protection Order bill that would allow police to disarm innocent Americans before they are even charged with crimes. Third parties like vengeful exes, estranged family members, or spiteful neighbors would suddenly get the power to turn gun owners into police.

Instead of proving that someone broke the law or adjudicating them mentally defective, this compromise bill would allow the government to use hearsay to justify disarming innocent gun owners. And disarmed gun owners would only get a chance to defend themselves in court after the confiscation order is executed.

Our country was built on a premise that all Americans are innocent until proven guilty. But this bill presumes that gun owners are guilty until they are proven innocent.
