It is vitally important that you pass the Hearing Protection Act (H.R.155 and S.817) and protect suppressor ownership in the United States. Hundreds of thousands of law-abiding citizens rely on suppressors to hunt, target shoot, and yes, even defend their families. It is time to stop vilifying these innocent Americans.

Suppressors are not magic. They do not "silence" a gun shot. The typical suppressor reduces a gun shot by only 20-35 decibels. When used on centerfire pistols and rifles, the gun shots are still loud.

A suppressed handgun still louder than a jack hammer, car horn, and chainsaw. Many suppressed rifles are still louder than 140 decibels, which is approximately the same volume of noise you would hear standing on the deck of an aircraft carrier.

Suppressors are designed to protect a shooter's hearing. That way, Americans can hunt, target shoot, and defend their homes without fear of permanent hearing damage.

Right now, suppressors are governed under the National Firearms Act of 1934. Federal law already defines suppressors as "firearms," meaning you have to pass a background check to buy one. Except, instead of paying $10 for an instant background check at a gun store, the NFA requires purchasers to pay the ATF $200 and wait 6-12 months for approval. There is absolutely no reason for this.

The Hearing Protection Act would fix this by allowing suppressor purchasers to have their background checks run through the FBI's National Instant Background Check System. Americans will still have to pass a background check, but the process will be streamlined and modernized.

There is no reason not to pass this bill. Hundreds of thousands of Americans already legally own 1.4 million suppressors in this country. It is time to stop vilifying them.

You Democrat colleagues, however, want to do the opposite. Democrats are now pushing legislation to treat suppressors the same as machine guns: by closing the registry entirely and going after Americans who already own them. The Virginia Beach shooting was the first high profile suppressor crime in decades and now gun control advocates want to use it to turn hundreds of thousands of Americans into felons.

You must stop them.

I am demanding that you pass the Hearing Protection Act and modernize suppressor regulations to stop a tax scheme designed to punish low and middle-class gun owners.

And then, I am demanding that you kill each and every gun control bill that Democrats try to push through. Every time there is a tragic shooting, gun control advocates try to ram through bills to criminalize innocent Americans. Enough is enough.

If you refuse to stand up for my rights and fight back against these unconstitutional gun control proposals, then I will not rest until you are removed from office.
