The 2nd Amendment exists for a reason. It doesn't grant Americans the right to keep and bear arms. Rather, it recognizes that all humans have a right to self-defense and prohibits the government from ever infringing on this natural right.

Many of your colleagues, however, are scheming to do just that. For years, they have been demanding that Congress "do something" on gun control.

We now know what that something is. It is called the Extreme Risk Protection Order and Violence Prevention Act. It is one of many bills introduced this year that would expand the government's gun confiscations powers and allow police and prosecutors to disarm innocent Americans.

Under Federal law, there are only a handful of justifications for civilian disarmament and revoking an American's 2nd Amendment rights. They all require the government to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that someone broke the law or poses a danger to society. Once those accusations are levied, then the accused is given an opportunity to defend themselves.

The so-called "red flag" bills being negotiated in Congress right now would turn that principle upside down. Instead of the government having to charge someone with a crime, the confiscation order would only require suspicion that someone is dangerous.

Instead of having to present evidence, these confiscation orders would simply rely on unsubstantiated hearsay from family, friends, or neighbors.

And instead of the government being forced to prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt, the burden shifts to the disarmed gun owner to instead prove to a judge that he or she deserves their rights back.

This is flagrantly unconstitutional and if you pass any of these Red Flag bills into law, you are guaranteeing that innocent Americans will lose their rights.

You must kill this bill and any other "compromise" gun confiscation legislation like it that emerges from committee. You swore an oath to defend the Constitution and that includes the 2nd Amendment.

If you vote for this monstrosity, or help pass any new gun confiscation provisions, then I will have no choice but to support, donate to, and vote for someone else.
