Whenever there is a mass shooting, there is always a predictable trend. Instead of blaming the deranged killer, gun control advocates turn their sights on innocent gun owners who have done nothing wrong.

The "solution" is always to strip away innocent gun owners' rights...

Today, however, your colleagues are moving forward with a compromise bill. Known as the Extreme Risk Protection Order and Violence Prevention Act, this bill would allow innocent Americans to have their firearms confiscated.

Police already have the power to disarm criminals or the mentally ill. They can charge them with a crime and petition the court to take away their firearms. If the defendant is convicted, then the confiscation is permanent.

But some of your colleagues don't think this is good enough. The Extreme Risk Protection Order and Violence Prevention Act would allow for police to disarm Americans without having to even charge them with a crime. Instead of the prosecutors having to prove someone's guilt, this bill flips the burden of proof upside down. It allows courts to disarm innocent people and then requires that the disarmed gun owner convince a judge to give them their rights back...

Our judicial system is built on the concept of innocent until proven guilty. This bill would make gun owners guilty until proven innocent...

The 2nd Amendment protects the individual right to keep and bear arms. This bill would turn that right into a privilege that can be revoked using the lowest legal standards of proof. And through this entire proposed process, prosecutors would not be required to charge the gun owner with a crime.

We all support getting guns out of the hands of dangerous individuals. But that isn't what this bill does.This bill literally authorizes the government to disarm innocent Americans.

Enough is enough.
