We are facing an onslaught of new gun control bills. Both Republicans and Democrats are determined to pass new gun control legislation.

But while all eyes are on bills like the Assault Weapon Ban and the confiscation proposal, the GOP is hoping to rush through a "compromise" background check bill.

Democrats couldn't be happier. Not only does the background check package give the government the power to keep a registry of American gun owners, but it would also allow the government to start blocking law abiding Americans from buying guns!

The GOP thinks they can push this surrender package through without you knowing.

Over the weekend, the country endured two more mass shootings. And like clockwork, before all of the facts were even known, your Democrat colleagues demanded that the GOP relent and agree to pass their background check bills.

As always seems to be the case, we now know that these proposed bills H.R.8 and H.R.1112 would not have stopped these tragedies. Both shooters passed background checks when they purchased their firearms. Because they had no criminal or mental health records, they passed the background checks.

These bills would not have prevented these tragedies. And yet, gun control advocates want to use these shootings to push their agenda through anyway.

These bills are not designed to target criminals. They are designed to go after law abiding Americans.

H.R.8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, is nothing but a thinly veiled attempt to create a nationwide gun registry. We already know that criminals are not going to follow gun laws. They already break a half a dozen laws when they illegally buy their crime guns. Another law on the books won't deter them.

Instead, it is meant to target law abiding Americans like me. The only way to enforce universal background checks is for the government to keep a record for every time a firearm changes hands. That is the only way to verify if guns are transferred or purchased lawfully.

We all know that gun control advocates want nationwide confiscations. The only way to get there is with a nationwide gun registry. Look throughout world history and every single time that a country confiscated its citizens' guns, it used a nationwide registry to do it. You CANNOT give this power to the government!

The other bill would extend the time that the FBI can take to perform an "instant" background check. But the problem is that by giving the FBI 20-21 business days to perform the background check and a subsequent appeal, the Enhanced Background Checks Act would allow the government to arbitrarily block gun purchases indefinitely. Since a background check is only valid for one month, even if the government approved a purchase after 21 business days, the purchaser would be forced to start the process all over again.

This bill would give the government the power to block tens of millions of law-abiding Americans from purchasing firearms, without even needing to give a reason why!

The devil is always in the details. These two bills -- H.R.8 and H.R.1112 -- may sound nice, but they are direct attacks on the right to keep and bear arms in this country. The first bill forces Americans to ask the government for permission whenever they want to purchase a gun and the 2nd bill gives the government the power to tell law-abiding Americans 'No.'

You must kill both of these bills.

You were sent to Washington DC to defend the Constitution, not chip away at it. If you won't honor that oath, then you will be removed from office. That is a promise!
