Every time there is a mass shooting, there is a push in Congress to target law abiding gun owners. We already know that criminals ignore gun laws. Adding another law to the books will not suddenly convince them to start obeying them...

The gun control proposals before Congress right now aren't designed to target criminals. They are designed to target innocent Americans who have done nothing wrong.

The 2nd Amendment doesn't give me the right to keep and bear arms. That right was bestowed to us by our creator. The 2nd Amendment exists simply to stop YOU from violating this God-given right.

Americans also have a right to presumed innocence. Police and prosecutors need to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that someone broke the law before disarmament can happen.

But right now, you and your colleagues are negotiating over a gun control package that would flip this premise upside down.

The Extreme Risk Protection Order and Violence Prevention Act would allow government to disarm innocent people without even needing to charge them with a crime. Instead of the government having to prove them guilty, the disarmed gun owners would have to prove they deserve their guns back.

All of the states that have implemented these red flag laws have already seen them abused. In Maryland, an innocent man was killed last Fall during a confiscation raid because he refused to turn over his gun. It turns out that an angry family member turned him into police to get even after they had a heated argument. He wasn't a criminal and he wasn't mentally ill. He was innocent.

Gun control advocates have dreamed of one day being able to disarm law-abiding citizens. You CANNOT give them this power.

If police and prosecutors want to disarm someone, they must be required to prove they committed a crime or are mentally defective. Hearsay and unfounded allegations are not considered proof.

There is nothing constitutional about disarming innocent people who haven't even been charged with a crime.

However pure your intentions, this bill is a grave affront to the 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms. If you vote for it, or do anything to help it reach the floor, your political career is over.

I am watching you and if you attack the 2nd Amendment, you will be removed from office...
