Their bill -- the Extreme Risk Protection Order Act of 2019 -- would create a new class of Federal prohibited person. It would empower the government to confiscate firearms from innocent people.

That isn't an exaggeration, it is a fact. Right now, the government has to prove someone broke the law in order to revoke their gun rights. That means they have to charge them with a crime and prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that they are guillty.

The Extreme Risk Protection Order Act of 2019, however, allows government to skip this step all together. Prosecutors would be allowed to seek confiscation orders without even needing to accuse them of a crime. And if a Judge agrees that a gun owner is "dangerous," without any evidence of actual criminal wrongdoing, then he can issue a firearm confiscation order.

Every state that has implemented these kinds of Red Flag laws have seen them abused. Prosecutors and police already have the power to disarm criminals and the mentally ill. The only thing this legislation does is allow them to go after innocent people as well...

This is flagrantly unconstitutional. All Americans have a right to due process and the presumption of innocence. But this bill would roll back those basic constitutional protections. Instead of being presumed innocent, gun owners would be presumed guilty.

And instead of gun ownership being a right, it would become a privilege that can be revoked without the government even needing to file criminal charges...

You must kill this bill. I don't care what it takes... I don't care what it costs you politically... if you dare expand the Government's gun confiscation powers in anyway, you will have to be removed from office!
