The Pentagon just announced that one mile of new border wall is being finished every day. By the end of next September, the administration estimates that they will be able to completely upwards of 500 miles of new border wall.

Isn't it amazing? This is what it looks like when a politician makes a promise and keeps it.

For decades, Republicans and Democrats have promised to secure the border. Congress authorized the wall in 2006 with the Secure Fence Act, but whenever it came time to fund it, the funding ended up being cut from the final spending packages.

President Trump is using his lawful and constitutional powers to protect the country and secure the border. You should be applauding him.

Instead, you and your colleagues are now preparing to revoke the President's power to reprogram funding for vital national security projects like this. Mitt Romney and Mike Lee just introduced the Article One Act. This legislation would change the National Emergencies Act to give Congress the power to revoke a national emergency with just a simple majority. The President would no longer have the power to confront the real emergencies facing the country unless Congress approves of it.

Since 1976, Presidents have declared 59 national emergencies. Most of them were hardly national emergencies. They were designed to help foreign countries deal with their problems. But now that Trump has actually used this statute to protect our national security, you want to revoke the power all together...

This is shameful.

The Border Wall never used to be controversial. Bush built border fencing. So did Obama. But when Donald Trump tries to secure the border, he is accused of being a racist and a tyrant.

The threat to the country is real. Every day, Americans are victimized by the drugs and crime that pours across our unsecured border. Their suffering is not a manufactured crisis... it is real.

You must kill the Article One Act and stop any other anti-border wall spending amendments from reaching President Trump's desk. For once, you need to put the country first.

I will say it one more time: this is not political. But if you vote for the Article One Act, or any other bill designed to strip funding from the border wall project, you will be held accountable and dragged out of office. That is a promise.
