On New Years Day, Colorado's new "Red Flag" law went into effect. Just days after police received this new power to confiscate guns from innocent people, the Denver Police have used it.

They confiscated guns from a 26-year-old man who allegedly got into an altercation with his wife. But after investigating the case, the District Attorney is declining to prosecute. Legally, this man is innocent. He has not been charged with a crime.

Under the law, he has to wait two weeks for a hearing. For the next two weeks, his right to keep and bear arms has been revoked. At his hearing, it will be up to him to convince a judge that he deserves his guns back. Again, the government doesn't even need to accuse him of breaking the law. If a judge thinks there is at least a 51% chance that he is dangerous, then the guns will be confiscated for an entire year.

Instead of being presumed innocent until proven guilty, as the Constitution promises, Red Flag laws presume gun owners guilty until they can convince a judge they are innocent.

Instead of having a right to keep and bear arms, Red Flag laws redefine gun ownership as a privilege that can be revoked at any time, for almost any reason.

The law literally turns our entire justice system upside-down in pursuit of making it easier to disarm innocent people.
