Over the past week, both the House and the Senate had an opportunity to pass a truly common sense bill. The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act states that whenever a baby is born alive, medical staff must do everything they can to care for the child and keep him or her alive.

This bill is as common sense as they come. Surely no one would vote to legalize infanticide... Surely no one would argue that the Constitution protects a right to a post-birth abortion...

And yet, 220 House Democrats and 41 Democrat Senators (plus three who didn't even bother showing up) did just that. They shot down the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act this week and voted to keep infanticide legal.

Just so we are clear, this is not an abortion issue. This is dealing with newborn babies -- your constituents -- who are born alive. There is no Constitutional right to kill newborns, simply because they are not wanted.

Every year, hundreds of babies are born alive after botched abortion procedures. It is absolutely shameful to watch your colleagues devalue these innocent babies. It is disgusting to see partisans so lock-step with the abortion lobby that they would unapologetically vote to support a right to murder living and breathing babies.

But it is also gross to see that the GOP is already tabling this bill. It took an entire year for this common sense legislation to receive another vote. You cannot let this bill go another year without passing.

This shouldn't be controversial. When babies are born alive, they should receive medical care. No parent or doctor should have the right to kill or fatally neglect a living and breathing newborn child. That is what is at stake here...

You must do everything in your power to force another vote, and to keep forcing votes until this life-saving legislation passes!
