President Trump has just mobilized the 687th Engineer Construction Company and 519th Military Police Battalion and sent them to the US-Mexico border. They will be joining the 5,000 troops already stationed at the border and will push back against migrants rushing the border.

Last week, the 9th Circuit overturned Trump's Remain in Mexico program. Within hours, hundreds of migrants in the program tried to storm the border checkpoint in El Paso. Trump was forced to close down the entire border bridge to stop them from getting through.

The 9th Circuit saw what was happening and agreed to a temporary stay on their ruling to give the administration time to appeal to the Supreme Court. That final ruling is expected this week, which is why the President is mobilizing these troops.

Let me be absolutely clear: there is no excuse for this. For six months, you have had a bill right in front of you that would put a stop to these border invasions and prevent illegal aliens from abusing our asylum system to force their way into the country. The legislation is called the Secure and Protect Act. Authored by Lindsey Graham and would implement four major changes to our immigration laws.

It would permanently end the practice of catch and release. All illegal aliens claiming asylum would remain detained, either in the US or Mexico, until their court date. But the bill would also hire 500 new immigration judges to eliminate the backlog of asylum cases and make sure that all asylum claims are heard within three weeks.

It would also end the practice of family separation. Family units would be kept together until their cases can be heard. Showing up to the border with a child in-tow would no longer be considered a get-out-of-jail-free card...

But most importantly, the Secure and Protect Act would raise the standards for asylum. Applicants would have to prove that they have a "more likely than not" chance of facing personalized persecution if returned to their home countries. Illegal aliens would no longer simply be able to claim to be "in fear for their life" without having to provide any proof.

These are common sense fixes that both Republicans and Democrats have supported in the past.

We now have US military personnel at the border preparing for a surge of tens of thousands of illegal aliens next week. You cannot afford to wait any longer.

You MUST pass the Secure and Protect Act by any means necessary. You must put politics aside and do what is right for the country.
