The last times that Congress cut its own pay was in 1932 and 1933. With the Depression in full swing and 15 million Americans out of work, Congress agreed to cut its pay by 15.5%.

I use the word "agree" lightly because ultimately, the American people forced them to take a pay cut. But even with this reduction, they still showed up for work.

Today, more than 26.5 million Americans are out of work, and that number is set to increase when the next jobs report gets released. Millions more Americans still have their jobs, but have seen their hours and wages cut back.

All across this country, Americans are tightening their belts to get through this. However, you and your colleagues believe you should be an exception. Before the Coronavirus outbreak, the House of Representatives had only planned to be in session for 112 days. That is less than a third of the year... Since the outbreak, however, Pelosi has only added more vacation days to the calendar. The Senate has been slightly better, but even they are on pace to spend more than half the year outside of Washington DC.

Why do you believe you can refuse to do your job and still collect a paycheck? With tens of millions of Americans chomping at the bit for a chance to get back to work, Members of Congress seem awfully happy just sitting at home and collecting their salaries...

You understand how wrong this is, right? You understand how disgusting it is to refuse to demand your full paycheck while simultaneously refusing to work?

It is unconscionable that with this many Americans out of work and struggling to get by, you and your colleagues believe you deserve to be paid to do nothing...

The American people will not stand for this.
