GOP Cowards Double Down, Promise to Rename Military Bases

The GOP is caving to the Left's demands. They have agreed to rename TEN military bases -- historic bases like Fort Hood, Benning, and Bragg -- because their namesakes, in addition to fighting in the US Army, also fought on the side of the Confederacy.

It took less than a day for the Left to seize on the Republicans' weakness and demand that statues, monuments, and historic paintings come down too.

This has nothing to do with the Confederacy. Not a single person can claim that they were oppressed by the sign standing outside a military base. This is all about the Left trying to gain ground in their culture war to bring them one step closer to removing monuments to Washington, Jefferson, and other patriots.

There is not a single person in the United States who can claim they were oppressed by inanimate objects like statues, monuments, or the signs standing outside of military bases.

And yet, there is a push right now in Congress to rename 10 historic military bases and to tear down dozens of monuments, statues, and paintings on or around Capitol Hill.

This has nothing to do with the Confederacy. This has nothing to do with civil rights. This is just an attempt to gain ground in a culture war. If you cave and agree to rename our military bases, the next fight will be over monuments to founders like Jefferson, Madison, and Washington...

Do you know why we have military bases named after Confederate heroes? No, it is not to glorify treason. It was done in an attempt to bring the country back together. The Lincoln and Johnson administrations understood that they would never be able to get Southerners to re-enlist in the Union Army after the Civil War if they were being trained and stationed in bases named after the Union Generals that had just conquered them.

Fort Hood is named after John Bell Hood. Yes, he was a Confederate General. But did you know that he lost an arm in Gettysburg and then lost a leg just two months later at the Battle of Chickamuga. But instead of resigning, Hood demanded that he be reinstated and ordered his men to strap him to his horse so he wouldn't fall off. Yes, Hood was a Confederate General. But that is not why Fort Hood is named after him. Fort Hood bears his name because despite losing two limbs in the Civil War, not only did he demand a promotion, but he also demanded that he be kept at the front lines with his men.

We are who we are as a nation because of our scars, not in spite of them. We are not perfect, and there is still a lot of work to do in this country, but this push to rename military bases and tear down statues is idiotic.

This has nothing to do with justice or equality. This is an opening salvo in a culture war that Democrats hope will end up with the founding fathers' monuments being torn down too. But it is also an effort for your colleagues to do something without actually accomplishing anything. No one can honestly say that they have been oppressed by a sign standing outside a military base. But Democrats are telling the Black Community that all their problems will be solved by erasing our history...

You need to push back against this. These bases are a part of our history. Yes, they are named after imperfect men, but these names were chosen in an attempt to bring the country together after the Civil War.

What does it say about you and your colleagues that you are more offended by this than the Union leadership was in the decades following the Civil War? What does it say about your colleagues who are out for blood when the winning side of the Civil War literally went out of its way to pursue reconciliation instead?

You need to kill this Warren Amendment. Then you need to block any other bill designed to tear down a monument, statue, or painting in order to appease the perpetually offended.

If you refuse to do the right thing, I am sorry but I will have no choice but to remove you from office...
