The fools in the GOP are doubling down. After massive pushback on their plan to abolish Columbus Day to make room for "Juneteenth" -- a holiday most of us had never even heard of a few weeks ago -- the GOP is doubling down. Sens. Johnson and Lankford are now saying it is about "balancing the budget."

Since Juneteenth is guaranteed to pass, they want to balance the budget by eliminating Columbus Day. And they call that a compromise.

The reason they are caving on this is that they believe Conservatives won't care. They truly believe that you won't care if they abolish Columbus Day to make room for a new federal holiday that didn't even officially exist before 1980.

If they cave to the Left on this, it won't stop here. The Left will take their "compromise" for weakness and continue trying to erase and rewrite our history.

It is absurd that with all of the real problems and challenges facing this country, you are instead wasting your time debating whether to make Juneteenth a federal holiday.

Juneteenth commemorates how Galveston, Texas learned about the Emancipation Proclamation on June 19, 1865, 1,001 days after it was signed. For most of our history, this holiday was only celebrated locally. It did not become a Texas holiday until 1980.

And yet, your colleagues are actually presenting this holiday -- which if we're being honest, most people hadn't even heard of it a couple weeks ago -- as our "Second Independence Day." That is simply not true.

I don't particularly care if people celebrate this holiday. But I don't think the authors of this bill have thought about how incredibly disruptive it would be to add a new federal and bank holiday two weeks after Memorial Day and two weeks before Independence Day...

But there is something even more ridiculous than this virtue signalling. Senators Ron Johnson (R-WI) and James Lankford (R-OK) are proposing eliminating Columbus Day to make room for Juneteenth on the federal calendar. They claim that it would cost too much to add another federal holiday without removing one. They are calling this a "compromise," but it is anything but...

A compromise is where both sides get something that they want, but not everything.

The Far Left has been trying to remove Columbus Day from the calendar for decades. How is it a "compromise" to create Juneteenth and cave to the mob by abolishing Columbus Day? That is not a compromise, it is a surrender.

You will not be able to appease the mob. If you give an inch, they will take a mile. The slippery slope argument was real. What started as a movement to remove confederate monuments has now turned into a bipartisan push to abolish Columbus Day.

I need you to understand something: I frankly don't care whether someone observes Columbus Day or not, just like I don't care if someone observes "Juneteenth." But I do care about stopping this mob from erasing and rewriting our history. If you cave to these demands and agree to remove Columbus Day to make room for "Juneteenth," you are finished.

If you think you can surrender like this and coast to re-election, you are sorely mistaken...
