Warren's Amendment to Desecrate Confederate Graves in Arlington now Moving Forward

The House and Senate are racing forward with an amendment they claim would simply rename American military bases after Confederate heroes.

But surprising no one, the amendment is much more radical than that. As written, it would require the federal government to deface Confederate soldiers' graves and remove any mention of the fact that 482 Confederates are buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Many Democrats want to expand this to include the tens of thousands of other Civil War soldiers buried on federal land (such as National Battlefields like Gettysburg).

The GOP has told Democrats that this sounds like a reasonable "compromise." Not only do they stupidly believe they can appease this mob, but they are actually willing to let the Left deface war graves...

Both the House and Senate are moving forward with Elizabeth Warren's amendment to "rename military bases" named after Confederate heroes.

That alone would be a mistake. But surprising no one, the amendment doesn't stop there. It would require the government "remove all names, symbols, displays, monuments, and paraphernalia that honor or commemorate the Confederate States of America (commonly referred to as the ''Confederacy'') or any person who served voluntarily with the Confederate States of America from all assets of the Department of Defense."

The reason that people are up in arms over this is because there are 482 Confederate soldiers buried in Arlington National Cemetery. They are buried in a circle around a Confederate memorial honoring the war dead. Every President -- including Barack Obama -- has laid a wreath at that memorial.

Warren's amendment would require that the monument be destroyed and removed, which would guarantee that the graves surrounding the monument would be disturbed and defaced.

The amendment also technically doesn't exempt the graves themselves. Since being buried at Arlington is an honor in and of itself, a literal reading of the amendment would require that the soldiers be exhumed so they could be posthumously punished. Even a best case reading of the amendment would require that the cemetery remove the signs pointing visitors to where the soldiers are buried.

How is this a compromise? How is desecrating and defacing Confederate graves considered a compromise?

The amendment also would require that the Pentagon remove Confederate exhibits from the service branch museums. The military academies and war colleges would also be required to take down paintings depicting Civil War battles. Warren's amendment would also force the USS Chancellorsville to end its current mission and return to wet dock to have its name changed (because the Confederacy won a battle in Chancellorsville).

This isn't a compromise. This is an attempt to posthumously punish Civil War soldiers and erase them from our history.

This is wrong and you know it. You also know that there is no appeasing this mob. If you surrender on this, they will not stop. In just three short years, they went from demanding that a statue to Robert E. Lee be taken down to demanding that Confederate soldiers' graves be defaced and even exhumed.

There is no compromising with these people...

You must kill Section 377 of the NDAA, or any other amendment they try to slip through to erase our history and deface Civil War grave sites. I don't care what it takes, you cannot allow this to become law.
