On June 29, while 4-year-old LeGend Taliferro was asleep in his bedroom, he was shot and killed by a stray bullet.

When President Trump learned about this, he knew he had to do something. Working with Bill Barr, Trump launched Operation LeGend, a collaborative effort using DHS and DOJ resources to combat the surging violence in American cities.

The operation was launched in LeGend's home town of Kansas City. In three weeks, the task force had arrested 200 violent criminals and took them off the streets.

When rioters in Portland, Oregon tried to burn down a federal courthouse this month, federal officers were ordered in to protect the property and to arrest the rioters targeting it.

Many of your colleagues howled, accusing the President of using "secret police" to "disappear" innocent "protesters." That is a lie. The federal officers are wearing official patches and the people being arrested are being indicted for their crimes.

Nancy Pelosi ordered Trump on Monday to start withdrawing federal officers from these cities. But after 14 people were gunned down in Chicago in broad daylight this week, President Trump announced he was expanding Operation Legend to include more cities being plagued by violence.

In Chicago, where federal officers are now being deployed, more than 1,900 people have been shot so far this year. Not only is that 500 more than last year, but there are still five months left in 2020. That number is only going to go up...

This is the status quo that many of your colleagues are fighting to preserve. They would rather innocent people continue to die than allow Trump to be able to claim victory. They are literally politicizing public safety. It is disgusting.

Over the next week, you will need to start debating and voting on the 12 appropriations bills needed to fund the government. Democrats are already adding amendments to these bills designed to defund Operation Legend.

Instead of working with the President to keep American safe, they are using their power of the purse to make it illegal to enforce federal law in these violent cities... It is absolutely shameful.

You must take a stand and defeat these radical amendments. I don't care what it takes, you cannot allow the amendments being slipped into the DOJ and DHS appropriations acts to become law.

Let me be absolutely clear: if you vote for any legislation that would disband Operation Legend and force federal officers to withdraw from these cities, you will be removed from office. That is a promise.
