Donald Trump never should have had to sign those executive orders yesterday. You and your colleagues should have gotten your act together and passed a clean coronavirus relief bill.

All four of those executive orders are legal and constitutional. The executive orders literally cite the statutory language that grant the President these powers.

Take Trump's suspension of the payroll tax, as an example. This power was codified into law in 1997 with the passage of the Taxpayer Relief Act. It passed in the Senate 92-8 and in the House by a wide margin of 389-43. It doesn't really get more bipartisan than that...

The law allows the President to suspend payroll tax collection for up to a year during a federally declared disaster. Trump absolutely has the power to do this.

And yet, your colleagues -- Democrats and Republicans -- are claiming that the President is abusing his power. They are working together to undermine the executive orders and block them from going into effect.

They would rather Americans continue to suffer as a result of Congressional obstruction than allow President Trump to take action on his own. It is absolutely shameful.
