They would rather innocent people continue to die and businesses be destroyed than allow President Trump to use his lawful power to restore order. They are teaming up with Democrats to gut the Insurrection Act to eliminate Trump's authority to intervene.

Last night, the mob in Portland killed an innocent man. After identifying him as a Trump supporter by his hat and patches, at least one thug opened fire and shot a man two times in the chest, right in the middle of the street. Police arrived quickly, but pronounced him dead at the scene.

When the news of the shooting reached other "peaceful protesters" in Portland, they danced and celebrated in the streets.

This came a day after Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler rejected President Donald Trump's offer to send Federal personnel to help restore order.

Wheeler rejected the assistance because he believes Trump will use the "scenes of violence" to help win reelection and reiterated the lie that the protesters in Portland were "peaceful." It took a little over a day for the rioters to interpret this sign of weakness and gun down a Trump supporter in the middle of the street.

It was just two days ago that we saw your colleague, Senator Rand Paul, attacked by thugs as he and his wife left President Trump's convention speech at the White House. The Secret Service had asked to secure the streets around the White House, but DC's Mayor blocked them, instead choosing to surrender those streets to the mob for the night.

President Trump has legitimate claims to invoke the Insurrection Act under Sections 252 and 253. Not only do the violent riots we see around the country hamper Federal law enforcement efforts, but they have also led to the deprivation and violation of Americans' rights and state and local officials have proven unable or unwilling to restore order on their own. This is why the Insurrection Act was written.

I hope that this is not necessary. I hope that these mayors and governors wake up and start fulfilling their obligation to protect their people and communities. But if they continue to refuse to act, Trump will have no choice but to act on his own.

A number of your colleagues, however, are trying to stop him. In both the House and the Senate, Democrats have introduced legislation to gut the Insurrection Act to prevent Trump from invoking it. These changes would require governors to request the assistance or for Congress to agree that putting Federal personnel on the ground is necessary.

Dwight D. Eisenhower invoked the Insurrection Act to force the South to integrate their schools. George H.W. Bush invoked the law to put down the Rodney King riots. This is a vital tool for Presidents to use when states prove unwilling or unable to respect their people's rights.

A man was gunned down in Portland last night for his political opinions. The men who killed him yelled out that they had caught a "Trumper." Enough is enough.

It is disgusting that so many of your colleagues want to eliminate this national security power, all in an attempt to "defeat" Trump. For your sake, I hope that you are not one of them...

Let me be clear: Any Congressman or Senator who supports or votes for legislation to gut the Insurrection Act -- either as a stand-alone bill or amendment -- will be removed from office. Any Republican or Democrat who votes to protect the looters and protesters will be removed from office.
