What the Flip is the NRA Doing?

The NRA, ATF, and Congressional Democrats are meeting in secret to radically redefine how American gun ownership is regulated by the ATF.

For years, the ATF has enforced the "sporting purposes" test which allows the agency to outlaw and ban from importation certain firearms not deemed useful for hunting or skeet shooting.

The Supreme Court has already ruled that Americans have a Second Amendment right to own firearms for self-defense, however the government still believes it has the authority to ban guns without a "sporting purpose."

What is even worse is that instead of fighting this, the NRA is negotiating with the ATF to broaden the definition of "sporting purposes" and in return, the gun lobby will agree to ban certain types of lawful ammunition from importation!

This is madness! You need to stand up and DEMAND that this crooked deal be scuttled immediately!

Right now, the NRA is meeting with the ATF and Congressional leaders to craft a compromise to the 1968 Gun Control Act.

Within the law is what is known as the "sporting purposes" requirement. It states that the government can ban the importation and manufacture/sale of certain rifles, pistols, and shotguns that are deemed to lack a "sporting purpose."

Your predecessors never clarified within the law what "sporting purposes" means, so the ATF has just made it up as it went along. Today, it is illegal to import a shotgun, rifle, or shotgun that the executive branch decides doesnt have a "sporting purpose."

Additionally, the vagueness of the law means that millions of Americans own shotguns within a grey area. The ATF has already declared that many of these aren't actually shotguns, leaving the door open to ban them entirely.

In the coming days, you will be asked to expand the definition of "sport purposes" to craft an exemption for Americans who own tactical shotguns. Instead of asking you to eliminate the sporting purposes test entirely, pro-gun lobbyists will ask you to expand it. In return for this redefinition, the Left is demanding that certain ammunition imports be banned entirely.

Under NO circumstances can you agree to this deal. According to Heller v. District of Columbia, the "sporting purposes" test is completely unconstitutional. The Supreme Court has already ruled that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to self defense. Hunting and skeet shooting have nothing to do with it!

To expand the definition of sporting purposes is treasonous. The phrase should be stricken from the U.S. Code entirely.

There's only one sport that the Second Amendment protects: the hunting of tyrants.

To agree to expand this unconstitutional framework and to ban ammunition imports would be treasonous, despotic, and tyrannical.
