ATF’s Ammunition Ban Back on the Agenda!

The ATF caved on its push to ban popular AR-15 ammunition, but Democrats and the White House aren't ready to give up. Now, they have a new ATF director who is sympathetic to their gun control agenda!

The President has promised to do everything he can to implement gun control on his own and now Democrats have introduced legislation that would make millions of law-abiding Americans instant felons. Simply because they own firearms capable of piercing a soft bullet-proof vest.

We warned that it would be a slippery slope. We warned that the Left would use 'officer safety' as an excuse to go after your legally owned firearms.

This affects every single gun owner in America. If this legislation is passed or implemented by Executive Directive, it is game over.

Congress was ready to act on legislation removing the ATF's authority to ban ammunition. You need to FORCE Congress to push this legislation through before it is too late!

Last month, the ATF announced it was shelving the proposal to ban popular M855 ammunition. If you were one of the lawmakers who stood up against this unconstitutional powergrab, thank you.

Now, however, the anti-gun movement is making another push to ban this ammunition. They have a new ATF director sympathetic to their goals. The only thing is, they aren't stopping there.

In testimony before the Senate Appropriations Committee, former-ATF Director B. Todd Jones strayed from the talking points and verified what we've feared all along. Instead of focusing just on M855 ammunition, the ATF Director went after all AR-15 ammo.

"Any 5.56 round [is] a challenge for officer safety," Director Jones told the Committee. He then asked them to review and rewrite the 1986 Law Enforcement Officer Protection Act to deal with deadly "assault rifle" bullets.

The ATF only has the authority to ban ammunition that has a core constructed entirely of steel. Except, over the years, the ATF has reinterpreted the law to ignore this fact and chosen to ban ammunition simply because it contains some steel in its core. The ATF banned the importation of surplus 7.62x39 and 5.45x39 ammunition even though it didn't meet the statutory definition of "steel core." As far as they were concerned, it was close enough and no one stopped them.

When they moved from this relatively obscure ammunition and tried to do the same to popular AR-15 rounds, a bipartisan majority of Congress stood up to them.

Now, one of your colleagues has introduced the Protect Law Enforcement Armor (PLEA) Act. Except, this bill doesn't just go after armor piercing ammunition... it would ban any firearm capable of firing armor piercing ammunition, regardless of whether you own said-ammunition.

That would include most firearms in civilian hands.

When it looked like the bullet ban would be pushed through, Congress was poised to pass legislation stripping the ATF of its power to regulate and ban ammunition. It is crucial that you push this legislaion through, and it is arguably even more important now that the ATF shelved its proposed ban.

Don't let anyone use police safety as an excuse to strip citizens of their rights! The chances of this legislation passing through the House are slim, but that doesn't mean the President won't try to act on his own. It is looking more and more likely that the ATF will revive it's bullet ban proposal. If it does, it will be too late to do anything about it.

If you want to protect police officers, invest in developing better body armor. But don't you dare allow the President or anyone else to use this as an excuse to turn law-abiding gun owners into felons!
