This past January, half a million demonstrators arrived in Washington DC to attend the March for Life. Marking the 42nd anniversary of Roe v Wade, these 500,000 demonstrators were excited. Why? Because you and your colleagues in Congress were set to vote on a bill to outlaw abortion after the 20th week of pregnancy.

The Supreme Court ruled in 1973 that the point of viability was around 24-28 weeks. However, the law has not caught up to modern science. At 20 weeks, the unborn feel pain in-utero. At 21 weeks, it has been proven that they can survive outside the womb.

The Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act would bridge that gap. It would recognize the humanity of the unborn and ensure that these children are not killed.

Look at it this way. If a doctor has to perform surgery on a fetus in-utero at 20 weeks, the doctor must administer anesthesia. Otherwise, the surgery would be unethical because the child would feel pain.

If doctors aren't allowed to perform surgery on the unborn without anesthesia, how can anyone possibly say it is ethical or legal to abort and dismember the child at the same stage of development?

This legislation would save tens of thousands of lives every year. Those babies will be born, grow up, and have children of their own. The amount of lives you can save is exponential.

You and your colleagues were poised to pass this legislation earlier this year. However, at the last minute, a select group of Republicans caved under the pressure, forcing the House to postpone the vote. Now, the legislation has been rewritten to remove the most contentious provisions.

You have an opportunity to put a stop to late-term abortions once and for all.

Watching you and your colleagues withdraw the bill earlier this year was absolutely shameful. That's the only word that comes to mind to describe legislators too afraid to protect the rights of the unborn.

But now, you have a chance to make it right. You must pass the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. Otherwise, I blame you for every viable child who is aborted.
