Breaking: Another Military Base Shooting in a Gun Free Zone

There was another shooting on a military base and like before, the vast majority of people on base were prohibited from carrying a gun for self-defense.

How many more of these tragedies must we suffer before we allow our military men and women to fight back?

Last year, Congress passed a provision overturning the administration's ban on concealed carry on base. The problem is, though they have the power to allow guns, most base commanders have kept the ban in place. Meanwhile, the bravest among us are being picked off.

Enough is enough!

Last year, you and your colleagues passed a provision in the NDAA to lift the HW Bush/Clinton ban on concealed weapons on military bases.

In a bipartisan fashion, you and your colleagues took a stand to make sure that our military men and women didn't have to be sitting ducks anymore.

While your provision lifed the ban at the administration level, many base commanders have chosen to leave the ban in place. They would rather leave their men and women defenseless than allow them to shoot back.

It's just shameful.

Our military bases are targets, not just abroad but here as well. Whether it was the two Fort Hood attacks or last year's terror attack in Chattanooga, it is clear that the status quo is unacceptable.

How many soldiers, airmen, sailors, or marines have to die before they're allowed to fight back? Why should a base commander's anti-gun beliefs get in the way of military men or women defending themselves?

As I said, last year's provision was a good start. But we've learned that it didn't go far enough. People are still being disarmed and shot dead on their own military bases. They deserve the opportunity to be able to fight back.
