Congress Voting to End Obama's Worst Anti-Gun Program!

Over the past few years, the Department of Justice began unfairly targeting gun stores by bullying their banks into dropping them as customers. Eric Holder, and now Loretta Lynch, both claimed this is necessary to fight against illegal gun sales, but the reality is the program only makes it harder for gun stores to do business.

Congress passed a law defunding the program. Obama’s anti-gun DOJ found a loophole. Gun stores are still being driven out of business simply for political reasons.

This isn’t about stopping crime… this is about making it more expensive and harder for YOU to exercise your Second Amendment rights! As long as it is acceptable for the government to bully one industry, then we are all at risk!

Two years ago, you and your colleagues slipped an amendment into the Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2015 that was supposed to defund the DOJ's Operation Choke Point. The fact that this anti-gun program is ongoing proves that legislative effort wasn't enough.

Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee have introduced legislation to finish the job and put an end to the Obama administration's anti-gun program.

This is the program that the DOJ uses to bully banks into dropping gun stores as customers, making it harder for these retailers to do business and more expensive for citizens to exercise their 2nd Amendment rights.

There is nothing illegal about selling guns and ammunition. These businesses are licensed through the ATF and are subject to routine inspections and background checks.

But both Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch have treated these gun shops like they are criminal enterprises. Look at it this way… The DOJ has instructed banks to treat gun stores the same as escort agencies, pornography stores, sellers of drug paraphernalia, and other risqué industries.

As I said, you defunded this program before. But the Department of (in)Justice is still blackmailing banks into dropping gun stores as customers. They claimed that they suspended this anti-gun program, but that simply isn't true. And much of the damage is already done. Financial institutions are still following the DOJ's instructions.

The Obama administration's policy is to threaten financial institutions with increased regulations unless they cut ties with gun stores. The banks, eager to avoid more regulation and bureaucratic red tape, reluctantly comply and drop the gun stores as clients.

Operation Choke Point was never about stopping crime… it was about targeting an entire industry that the Obama administration philosophically and politically disagrees with. It was about finding new ways to infringe on our Second Amendment rights without having to go through Congress!

The administration's gun control push failed so they have turned to trying to put gun dealers out of business.

Is this what the Founders intended? You and your colleagues put an amendment into law to stop this madness. But that obviously isn't good enough because the program is ongoing.

It is time for you to reassert your legislative authority. You MUST stop the administration from enacting Operation Choke Point immediately and start putting these criminal bureaucrats in prison once and for all!

Pass Mike Lee and Ted Cruz's legislation immediately!
