Hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of Social Security beneficiaries now face the prospect of disarmament and a prohibition from owning or buying firearms. Disarmament letters will begin hitting mailboxes this coming week and anyone on this new list who tries to buy a gun will instantly commit a felony.

Last week, the Obama administration finalized one of the President's gun control executive orders. The Social Security Administration will now forward its list of disabled beneficiaries to the FBI in order to prevent them from owning firearms.

For decades, the SSA has encouraged elderly beneficiaries to assign a "representative payee" to help them with their finances. Sometimes, people reach the age when they're no longer comfortable driving and need a family member to deposit their checks or pick up their prescriptions.

Other times, beneficiaries recognize they are just horrible at managing their bills and want a family member or friend to help make sure they get paid on time.

What the Obama administration has done is use an obscure provision within the Gun Control Act of 1968 to use these beneficiaries "inability to manage their affairs" as an excuse for disarmament.

The quota for the SSA is to disarm 75,000 beneficiaries this coming year. There are also SEVEN other government departments or agencies rushing to implement this disarmament scheme as well.

Right now, there is a two-page piece of legislation languishing in committee that would put an end to all of this: The Social Security Beneficiary Second Amendment Rights Protection Act.

The bill is simple: It amends the current law to prohibit the Social Security Administration to use the assignment of representative payee to adjudicate that a beneficiary is mentally defective.

That is it. All together, the legislation has less than 30 lines of text.

This bill is approaching 160 co-sponsors. It has received the support of the NRA as well as the support of the American Association of People with Disabilities and the National Council on Disability.

This is common sense. Nowhere in the 2nd Amendment is there a caveat that the right to keep and bear arms only applies to the financially literate.

I am writing to you today to DEMAND that you make this a priority. You cannot allow this disarmament scheme to move forward!
