Unbelievable Republicans are Caving to Democrats on Major Gun Issue

On Wednesday, Congress was supposed to begin the process of approving a major piece of pro-gun legislation, the Sportsmen's Heritage and Recreation Enhancement (SHARE) Act. At the last minute, they added a provision to the bill that would dismantle an 80+ year-old gun control to make it easier for law-abiding Americans to purchase suppressors.

Then, a crazed Bernie Sanders supporter decided to go on a rampage targeting Republican Members of Congress. All of a sudden, the bill was pulled from the schedule.

But as Congress gets back to work, the SHARE Act still has not been re-added to the legislative calendar. Our fear is that the GOP leadership is using this tragedy as an excuse to get out of having to vote to restore the Second Amendment!

If we don't force them to re-add this bill to the calendar now, they never will. If they think they can get away with surrendering on this, there's no telling what they'll cave on!

The shooting on Wednesday was a tragedy. It shows what happens when politicians and pundits are allowed to spew hateful and violent rhetoric without consequence.

Wednesday morning was supposed to be an important day for the gun rights movement. The House Committee on Natural Resources was scheduled to consider Sportsmen's Heritage and Recreation Enhancement (SHARE) Act. This legislation would codify much needed reforms for hunting and fishing in the United States, it would make it easier for law-abiding Americans to transport their firearms across state lines, and, most importantly, it would de-regulate suppressors and bring an end to parts of the 83-year-old gun control abomination known as the National Firearms Act.

This bill is a major part of the Second Amendment agenda that President Trump ran on and won on. It would bar the federal government from going after hunters and fishermen by banning lead bullets or fishing weights and it would make it next to impossible for the ATF or other government agencies to go after gun powder, which Obama tried to do last year. All while giving wildlife agencies the tools they need to ensure the outdoors remains open and accessible to all Americans.

After the shooting at the Alexandria baseball field, this bill was pulled from the legislative calendar. The official reason given was that all votes were being delayed because of the tragic events. But now that Congress has returned to business, the Sportsmen's Heritage and Recreation Enhancement (SHARE) Act still has not been rescheduled.

I understand pulling this important bill from the schedule in response to the shooting. But it is time to move forward with it.

It is time to pass these much needed reforms. It is time to make good on your promises!
